Northeast Indian Cuisine
Northeast India, which consists of seven states collectively referred to as the “Seven Sisters” plus Sikkim, is well-known for its intriguing tribal food and beverage culture that hasn’t altered much since the Middle Ages. In truth, the Northeast boasts a vast variety of meat-based foods created from pigeon, wild boar, and pig meat in addition to some fascinating varieties of vegetarian dishes from Manipur. This area has a large population of fermented food, and unlike the rest of India, the local cuisine gets its flavours from fermented pickles and mixtures like akhuni (a dish created from fermented soyabean). It is regarded as one of the world’s healthiest cuisines.
